Ireland

The FMDM presence in Ireland began in 1942 when our community in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway was established and we opened Portiuncula hospital which we ran for [INSERT HERE] years before handing it over to the Western Health Board in [INSERT HERE]

Today we have 11 communities in Dublin, Ballinasloe, Killarney and Drogheda. We also have Irish sisters all over the world as they have responded to the missionary call to serve wherever they are sent.

Our ministry in Ireland was traditionally in health care, especially general nursing, midwifery and care of children with special needs. Today we have diversified to minister in retreat work, justice and peace, pastoral care, parish work, care of the elderly and needy in society, counselling and psychotherapy as well as collaborative ministry with other religious orders.
